Light Up Your Life Safely: A Guide to Candle Safety

Candles can create a cozy and relaxing ambiance in any space, but it's important to remember that they can also be dangerous if not used properly. As a candle manufacturer, I take candle safety seriously and want to share some tips to ensure that you can enjoy your candles safely.

First and foremost, always keep candles out of reach of children and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and make sure that candles are placed on a stable surface that is heat-resistant and away from any flammable materials. This includes curtains, bedding, books, and paper products.

When lighting a candle, make sure to trim the wick to ¼ inch before each use (ours are pre-cut, ready to light). This will help prevent the flame from becoming too large and flickering, which can lead to the candle overheating and causing a fire. Using a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame is also a safe way to prevent the hot wax from splattering.

Another important tip is to avoid placing candles in drafty areas, such as near an open window or a fan. Drafts can cause the flame to flicker and increase the risk of the candle tipping over or igniting nearby objects.

It's also important to use the right size and type of candle holder for your candle. A holder that is too small or not designed for the candle can cause the wax to overflow and potentially start a fire. Always use a holder that is appropriate for the size of the candle and that will catch any drips or spills. In the case of our container wax products, we highly suggest using our candle refills for our candle vessels.

When using multiple candles, make sure they are spaced at least 6 inches apart to prevent them from melting into each other or causing the flame to merge. This can also help prevent the heat from one candle from affecting another nearby object.

If you have pets, it's important to keep them in mind when using candles. Cats are notorious for knocking over candles with their tails or paws, and dogs can accidentally knock over a candle with their wagging tail or by jumping up on a table or shelf. Keep candles out of reach of your pets, and consider using flameless candles instead.

When the candle has burned down to the bottom, it's important to stop using it. Burning a candle too low can cause the wick to shift and the container to break, which can lead to a fire. Always extinguish the candle when there is about a half inch of wax left.

Lastly, candle safety is crucial to ensure that you can enjoy the warm glow and relaxing atmosphere that candles provide without the risk of fire or injury. Always follow these tips to keep yourself and your loved ones safe when using candles in your home.
